Welcome ICEM - AECT's newest affiliate!

AECT has a new affiliate.  The AECT Board of Directors recently approved the International Council for Educational Media (ICEM) as AECT's newest affiliate.  Many long-term AECT members may be scratching there heads asking, "Wasn't ICEM already an AECT affiliate?"  Well, you would be correct - sort of.  Actually, in the past AECT was an affiliate of ICEM. Confusing, I know. Anyway, with this latest approval, ICEM is now an official affiliate of AECT.

AECT-ICFER Taiwan Conference - proposal deadline Jan. 31

The January 31st proposal deadline is fast approaching, so don't forget to submit your proposal for this summer's AECT International Conference on the Frontier in e-Learning Research 2013 (AECT-ICFER 2013) held at the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung, Taiwan,
June 18-20, 2013.

AECT-ICFER 2013 will be comprised of four-interrelated tracks with specialized themes:

1. Digital Classrooms: From Dream-based Research to Practice-based Research
2. Insights from Distinguished Mobile and Ubiquitous Learning Projects across the World
3. Transforming the Classrooms: Innovative Digital Game-based Learning Designs and Applications  
4. Technology-Enhanced Science Learning

Each track is organized by a program committee and will be part of the two-and-a-half day conference schedule.

AECT-ICFER 2013 will be held at National Museum of Natural Science. The museum is a six-venue complex housing the Space IMAX Theater, Science Center, Life Science Hall, Human Cultures Hall (the original Chinese Science Hall), Global Environment Hall and the Botanical Garden. Over 30 permanent exhibit areas cover subjects on astronomy, space science, paleontology, ecology, gems and minerals, Taiwanese aborigines, and tropical plants.

Tours to Sun Moon Lake and Xitou Nature Education Area will also be available.

2013 AECT elections have begun!  I hope you will take some time select those individuals who will lead our organization at the divisional, board, and executive levels.  Candidate bios and statements are available for your perusal.

Once you have reviewed the candidates, voting is as easy as 1 - 2 - 3:

2. Log in with your AECT member number and password (Last Name)
3. Make your selections

Vote early (but not often). This is an AECT election, not a Chicago election :)

The AECT 2012 dust has settled - Planning for AECT 2013 is underway!

The dust has settled, and another successful AECT convention is behind us.  With the impact of Sandy on the east and her affect on flights across the US, I was worried that our convention plans would be impacted by mass cancellations.  However, the AECT membership persevered by waiting for countless hours on the phone to be re-booked, re-routing drives to dodge the snowstorm, and even scratching fight plans and driving 10+ hours to get to Louisville.  Such determination by its members is what makes AECT so special; members will go to extraordinary lengths to share their research, catch-up with colleagues and make new friends at our yearly convention.

As with all of our conventions, the 2012 AECT Convention was team effort - from Zeni Colorado's conference planning, to the countless hours of support by division and affiliate planners.  If you have an opportunity, send a note of thanks to your division/affiliate planners, committee members/leadership,  AECT staff members, ect Foundation members, and the many volunteers who made our Louisville convention a success.

Now, it's time to turn our attention to our upcoming 2013 AECT International Convention in Anaheim, CA.  Assisted again by last year's co-planner Zeni Colorado, President-Elect Steve Harmon and his planning team are already hard at work on our 2013 program (actually the 2013 convention work began long before our 2012 convention). The proposal deadline has been set.  Proposals will be accepted until February 15, 2013 - 11:59 p.m. (EST).  The convention call and all the information that you need are available at http://aectorg.yourwebhosting.com/events/call/

So, polish those proposals, submit early, and submit often! Mark your calendars for October 29 to November 2, 2013.  You don't want to miss-out on a great time in Anaheim!
